e-MTB Technology

Classification - I, II, III

· Class 1 – Limited to a top speed of 20 mph and the motor only works when the rider is pedaling. All e-MTB’s sold at Sports Garage are Class 1.
· Class 2 - Also limited to a top speed of 20 mph, but Class 2 e-bikes have throttles that work when you’re not pedaling.
· Class 3 – Limited to a top speed of 28 mph and may or may not have a throttle. State laws vary with respect to Class 3 e-bike access.

Battery Life - Wh

Your e-MTB battery life is measured in Watt Hours (Wh). Also referred to as "range", battery life is impacted by a variety of factors, including the following:
· What power level do you ride in? You can ride longer at the lowest level of assistance than you can in "Turbo".
· What is your rider weight? Smaller riders use less battery.
· How powerful is the motor? More torque uses more battery.

Power - Nm

The mechanical power of the motor unit is measured in Newton meters (Nm) and is a measure of acceleration and speed, or "torque". Motor power measurement can be confusing, because Watts is also sometimes used. Watts (W) indicates the maximum speed and legal compliance of an e-bike. The higher the Newton meters, the more rotational force generated by the motor to propel the bike forward. Nm values typically range from 40 Nm (regular torque) to 80 Nm+ (high torque).
