Santa Cruz Tallboy – 27.5+
Accounting for a half inch difference in wheel height, the only difference between this bike and the Tallboy 29 is a 130mm fork. As with the Hightower, the ability to get the Tallboy in either wheel size is truly about rider style, skill, and preferred terrain. More severe trail conditions (unpredictable traction under a cloud of desert dust? slick and sinister roots? deep and chunky gravel?) beg for the stability of the 27+. We have definitely played around running 29” wheels with this 130 mm fork, and see ample opportunity for Tallboy’s versatility. We carry the Tallboy 27+ because it’s a well-protected investment: in the long run, you won’t be married to your wheel size decision, but always ride an efficient, sensitive, trail-tested machine.
