Sports Garage

Brian

Name:  Brian Firle “Hey! That’s recyclable!”

AKA:  Firle

What do you do at Sports Garage?

Service.  Dialing bikes into perfection.

What is your favorite bike that you’ve ever had?

My 29er singlespeed hardtail.  It’s taken me on lots of long, computerless, phoneless rides in Nederland, CO.

What's your background in cycling?

I’ve been riding my whole life.  In 2008 I starting racing road and MTB and I fell in love with going fast and the camaraderie of my cycling team.  50% road, 50% mountain – I have a deep love for both.

What’s the best thing about SG?

The people.  People here have great perspective.  Cycling is about having fun.  Why would you do it otherwise?

Why do you work at Sports Garage?

I work at SG because I think bikes are works of art.  Making them work flawlessly is an art as well.  Only a handful of people do it well, really well and SG is a shop where you’ll find those people.

Why do you ride?

Going fast is fun and there is nothing like cresting a long, good climb and getting to see the view.

Brian Firle moved to Boulder, CO after leaving his hometown of Austin, TX behind a few years ago.  Immediately after starting at SG, he took the reigns and spearheaded SG’s sustainability campaign by initiating a drastic reduction in waste through re-use and recycling programs.  He takes his work, and his beer seriously.  When not at work, he’s kicking back a couple of his favorite FYIPAs from Mountain Sun Brewery.  (That’s a hint for those of you that might feel like throwing your favorite mechanic a bone or two.)  Just make sure you watch your lunch around him.  He really, really, really loves food.
